Types of soft and hard wood, their features and applications
Wood, which is obtained from the trunk of trees and is cut to the board, is made up mostly of wooden materials used in the manufacture of furniture and furnishings. The type of wood we choose determines the beauty and strength of the built-in instrument. Many types of wood are available, each with its own characteristics.
In this article, the most common types of soft and hard wood and their features are expressed. (It should be noted that this is a translation, and the conditions for the sale and sale of wood in our country may differ from those mentioned.)
Popular softwood
When we say that softwood does not necessarily mean that this wood is weaker and less compact than hard wood. In fact, the main difference is the soft and hard wood in how they reproduce. Softwood is one of the poorest and hardwood producers. Soft woods come from pine family trees such as cedar, spruce, and pine, and their color is somewhat yellow or reddish. Since most pine family trees grow fast and straight, as a result, their wood, called softwood, is typically cheaper than hardwood.
It is relatively easy to find softwood that is stable. (Sustainable wood is a tree that grows on tree fields to ensure that endless wood resources are in place.) If we use this kind of wood, we will not participate in the deforestation process. And there’s always a wood source for our designs.
Here is a list of common softwood types and their features. (On the softness scale of 1 to 4, 1 is the softest wood.)
⇐ Cedar
The most common type of cider is its western red variety. Western red cedar, as its name suggests, has a reddish color. This type of wood is relatively soft (1 in scale 1 to 4) has straight veins and the bit is slightly fragrant. The western red cedar is used for outdoor projects such as furniture, decks, and buildings, because it can withstand wet environments without wearing out. The price of western red cedar is modest and can be found in many carpentry.
The crayfish is one of the most fragrant wood and is also strong enough to withstand the natural environment. So it’s great for the ship deck and patio furniture.
⇐ spruce
The most popular spruce is Poplar Douglas. It has straight clear veins and its brownish-red color. Spruce is often used for construction; however, it is cheap and can be used to build some furniture. Spruce does not have a very striking pattern and does not polish well, so the best time to use it when you intend to paint the final product.
Poplar Douglas is somewhat tight and is considered hard among soft woods. On a scale of 1 to 4, the scale is 4.

The mammoth tree, like the cedar, is used for outdoor designs because of its resistance to moisture. The mamuto tree is relatively soft and has straight veins. As its name suggests, its color is red. Working with a mammoth tree is easy, relatively soft (2 on a scale of 1 to 4) and its price is modest. Found in carpenters.
Most carpenters are interested in working hard wood. Color variation, texture and patterns of veins make some interesting furniture made of this kind of wood. The one that restricts the use of hardwood is their price. The materials made from some species of this tree can be very expensive.
Some hard wood can be found very hard, because they are cut off without worrying about the possibility of their extinction. (Their sample is Brazilian Balsam). It is not only a lesion for the environment, but also heightens the price of these wood. If you can, try to buy wood from sustainable forests. (Commercial tree plantations where wood supply is guaranteed.) Sustainable forestry can be sustained.
